Da….Cubs

Football is now officially over until August(july if you count training camp), which means it’s now officially baseball season!
The Cubs will begin their first work outs later this week, which has motivated me to try and find out what the cubs have been up to since the world series ended. I found out…nothing to interesting. As far as I can tell, no new owner, and can’t even find an article written this year about any candidates. I’ll keep hoping that Mark Cub(f)an…see cub fan is almost in his name >_>. So this story will linger for a while longer, and hopefully we get someone whose first goal is to win first, make a profit second.
The next biggest news this season was the pick up of Kosuke Fukudome. Who is the first Japanese player to play for the cub, he’s also a lefty. Something the cubs need in the line up. However, i would have preferred a 2b/ss pick up over another OF, but it’s a start. Fukudome was a pretty good Japanese player who had a good on base percentage, good ba, and enough power that you had to respect it, but not known for it. Hopefully he can continue his success in the majors here state side.
The next biggest news was Mark Prior not being resigned. Prior and Wood, the dou that was supposed to dominate the leauge. However freak accidents have kept that from happening. Namely not 1, but 2, balls hit right up the middle hitting prior in the elbow. As well as a prior shoulder charing a 2b while running the bases. Prior was picked up by the padres for a measly 1 mil, best of luck to him and I hope he returns to the prior of 01/02.
Beyond that, it was just some small things. Some older players cut, younger players trade, no real major accusations. Lieber is coming back to the cubs, but with his age i’ll be shocked to see anything more then 13 wins out of him. There still is some time left before the season starts, so i can hope for another pick up. If not, we’ll see how the teams are doing when the trading dead line and if the cubs are going to be making a deal.
My prediction for the 08 season, 88-74, win the division lose in the second round of the playoffs. Exceed my expectations cubbies!
