Harmonix vs Activision battle: Round 2
Posted on March 12, 2008 - Filed Under Gaming
These two companies are one of the few companies that publicly hate each other as much as the fanbois of each game hate each other. Which makes for entertainment for the rest of us. They bicker back and forth and point the finger at the other, and ultimately nobody wins. Though slapping harmonix’s name here may be a bit misleading as this is really a battle of old vs new.
The old being EA, who will do anything they can to prevent the inevitable from happening. Whille activision wants to show it’s the new top dog when it comes to 3rd party publishers. Various subtle shots at each other have been made, and mostly ignored. The two most noticble acts were Activision blocking a Rock Band patch that would have allowed Rock Band to be played with Guitar Hero 3 guitars on ps3. The decision to do this makes no sense as it only hurts activision. however, they don’t care they just want to send the message that they will do what they want from now.
The latest issue occured just this week. harmonix filed a lawsuit claiming they weren’t being given proper royalities from the Guitar Hero sale earlier last year. They then quickly withdrew the lawsuit in a manner that only comes off as “hahaha lol jk, let’s talk guys.” So now apparently the two companies are talking outside of court and i’m sure more bickering will continue. It’s a shame these two companies can’t just get along, but rather only care about their egos. Oh well, humor is humor.
