Mario Kart Wii: Initial impressions
Posted on April 27, 2008 - Filed Under Gaming
Okay, so I just got back from gamestop with Mario Kart in hand. A little skeptical if I should buy it or not, as I’m just not using the wii much anymore. With only having one wiimote and a nongaming roommate now it’s lost a lot of it’s fun. Smash solo = snooze fest. Hopefully mario kart will work a little better, but honeslty it’s only got to last 2 days and then it’s GTA4 time. Well enough for that.
First off the wheel works pretty nicely. It will take 1 race to get use to it, then it’s fine. I seldom had a problem just going straight, a problem i’ve had with other Wii racers trying to use the wiimote as a steering wheel. That’s a big plus. It also works with all the other control schemes, so don’t worry if you want to try other things.
Next as is seemingly the standard for big N’s franchises, it’s been dumbed down. they added an automatic mode which let’s you drift just by turning. This greatly helps the handling of all the cars and makes the game more noob friendly. If you choose manual you do get the bonus of you’ll get the ‘mini boost’ when you drift through a turn long enough.
I haven’t tried the bikes yet so I can’t comment on them, other wise it plays just like Mario Kart should. Race around, collect items, use items, win. It’s a good deal of fun, I’ll assume will be more enjoyable with a group to play with. I’ll see if i have time to try on line later tonight. All in all initial impressions are pretty good.

Dirty, dirty trap
Mike, send me an email with a list of all the equipment and games you’d be willing to sell (e.g. Wii, x number of controllers, types of controllers, and so on) as well as a price you’d be happy with for all of it, and we can go from there.
Thanks!
