Hey Look a review! NBA Ballers: Choosen one

So I’m giving gamefly a try because the more i go to gamespot or best buy the more I realize games are expensive and there aren’t many I want to drop $60 on and it just seems like PS3 games refuse to drop in price. Gamefly offers a user review system, which should give me an addition incentive to write reviews giving me some more places to post them. So with that out of the way, onto the review!
With basketball finals upcoming a basketball game was in need. So i placed Ballers on the queue inspite of all the negative about it. Thinking at least the flash would make up for it.
How little did I overestimate the amount and ease to use those flashy moves would be. You get thrown into the game with no tutorial what so ever. So you start of guessing what each of the buttons do.
What a fun first couple of games that made! once you do get the controls down you’ll next learn that offense is just a drive to the basket and dunk. While defense is either swipe at the ball and hope for a pick or camp the basket and swat anything in your way.
So beyond having shallow game play it’s biggest value is supposed to be the super moves things. No only is it a mystery how to execute them, it completely kills what little momentum there is in the game by taking you of the game and into an cinematic, unskippable, short scene.
All in all this is a game that very quickly is going to result in a quick return and on to pick up something new.
The create a baller offers a lot of fine tweaking, but very little pre built to pick from. You essentially pick if you want to be white, black, or a shade in between.
The idea behind the story mode is interesting and probably would make a good TV show if you could every get the all-stars to participate in it. However it makes a very unappealing video game.
With everything said and done, the only good thing is the soundtrack. That’s only if you don’t play enough for it to start getting repetitive. Which for me didn’t end up that way.
Graphics: 7/10 It’s never going to wow you with anything, but you are aware your playing a ps3 game.
Sound: 7/10 Despite the soundtrack not being my taste of music, I did enjoy it. The announcing was acceptable and the little cut scenes in the story are well done.
gameplay: 2/10 My hope in renewing some faith in midway before MK VS DC comes out is not moving upwards. I just can’t understand how the company that made the orginal ’streetish’ basketball game(NBA JAM) can’t figure out how to make one enjoyable today.
Toast Factor: 1/10 I can’t in good concience recommend this to anyone. It’s just plain and simple not fun. Some of the missions are down right aggravating(make up a 12 point decefit in a game void of defense for example). There wasn’t a single point of time in which I thought I was having fun. Pleany of times I was saying it’s going to get better, only to keep being let down.
