Games for the rest of 08
Posted on July 22, 2008 - Filed Under Gaming
So after talking to Jermey today about how he wanted to pick up a ps3 it got me thinking about the rest of the games I want to pick up this year. Okay well I might not play all of them…
So far anyone of you wondering what I’m interested in or looking for anything to look forward to here goes.
PS3
Soul Caliber 4 - One of the few fighting franchises I’ve really enjoyed. Throw in a random Vader cameo and you’ve got your self a happy customer.
Madden 09 - Though it pains me to type this, I’ve lost my 2k5 disc and I do enjoy football games. Sadly there is no other option to get my fix. I can’t say I’m excited for 09 as there isn’t much ‘new’ even for maddens standards being added. Oh well, I’ll get to build sexy rexy into the QB of the feature, and isn’t that what matters most?
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice - A long living Tactical RPG from the ps2 area. I can’t explain why I enjoy these games, I can just say that I do.
FaceBreaker - Okay this probably doesn’t belong here as this is looking like rental only. However if it can capture the fun of Ready2Rumble from the DC days, I might just pick it up.
Legendary - Another that is here more as a place holder for me then for my real desire to purchase. It could go down the path of generic shooter. Or it could be a stand out game. The basic premise of this game is someone in modern day opens Pandora’s box and mythical creatures get released. There are supposed to be 3 forces that will fight with each other. So sometimes you may be the target in a 3 way fight and in others you may be able to do some more hit and run style play.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - A good SW game? that doesn’t involve legos? that’s on a console not called the 64? lets hope this games lives up to expectations. And yes I know about KOTR, but blame my bad graphics card for me not having a chance to enjoy it, I might pick it up on XBL via xbox classics though.
Silent Hill: Homecoming - Okay I don’t like being scarred. So i’ve never played the previous games and I seldom watch horror movies on my own. Not that I won’t, but this game looks to be pretty solid and I may just have to start acting like a man and play through it. Everything I’ve heard so far has been good.
Golden Axe - Beast Rider - I’m not going to lie, the trailer looked bad. However due to the important of the sega classic I’ll add it to the list. Who knows, it could end up a solid game. Just don’t expect it to be anything revolutionary.
Midnight Club: Los Angeles - My preferred ‘tuner’ racing game of choice. I’ve enjoyed the series more then the NFS series since I first played it back on DC. Each game I’ve played has been a lot of fun and this shapes up to be a good one.
Motorstorm 2: Pacific Rift - the biggest problem with this game, is it’s slated to release the day after Midnight club. The original motorstorm was a solid first year title, so let’s see how they manage to improve the series. My biggest worry is that the first motorstorm had a lot of DLC that should have been apart of the game on the disc. I let it slide as it being an early title, I just hope they don’t follow a similar plan with the sequel.
Saints Row 2 - Will it be a poor GTA clone or will it be GTA+? Only time will tell.
Socom: Confrontation - This appears to be the game that will replace warhawk. It’s online only which makes me a sad panda and likely put it on the pass list since I’m not a big online gamer. However because Socom is responsible for so much of squad based shooters and voice chat, it deserves a cameo.
Little Big Planet - Will this game have a point? I’m all for user created content, but I dont see myself playing a platformer for the sake of playing. It looks cute and I’ll buy it if for no other reason they If i’m ever asked to do a presentation I’ll use this as my power point.
Bioshock - This one comes down largely to how my gamefly Q goes. It’s currently on there for the 360 but it’s not a game I put a lot of importance in playing. If I don’t get to it by time it’s out on PS3 i’ll look for the PS3 version instead. There really isn’t much to be said at this point. You either love the game or wonder how a linear shooter got so much praise. I’ll find out for myself eventually.
Resistance 2 - One of a small number of FPS I can say I’ve enjoyed was Resistance. The twist on reality makes it interesting to me. With offering 8 player online Co-Op it just might become a shooter I play online. Plus it’s got huge ass Chimera and who doesn’t love a giant boss fight?
Valkyria Chronicles - Another strategy RPG, however this once is being done without the grid you tend to find. Instead you get what the developers compared to a gas gauge and you can do your actions until that runs out. There is also some real time to it as well as the enemy will shoot at you while you run around during your ‘turn’. It looks like a nice twist. Not to mention it’s got a unique art style I can side with.
Mirrors Edge - This game has been getting a good deal of buzz. So far, I’m not buying into it. However we’ll see how it shapes up.
Sonic Unleashed - Is it wrong for me to keep hoping that a good sonic game will come out? Is Sega just trying to make me miss the dreamcast that much more by releasing bad sonic games? Well, like each of the last ones, this Sonic is supposed to be different. I know I hope so.
Prince of Persia - The trailer looks great but can it do what no other PoP games has done and motivate me to play it over the other games on my list?
360
Spectral Force 3 - Another Tactical RPG on this list. I’m not familiar with this franchise so I’ll rent it first, but it looks promising.
Too Human - An rpg that’s been talked about for nearly 9 years now. It’s finally being released and did not deserve that long of a development cycle. However the game is solid and the story is supposed to be set up for an trilogy…hopefully it wont take 9 years to get to the next phase. The demo is solid and I did enjoy it and it is a big part of the reason I picked up a 360.
Infinite Undiscovery - A tri-ace RPG, need I say more? most likely these guys are apart of Squareenix and were the ones that made Star Ocean 3. If it’s 2/3 as good as SO3 was, This will become my favorite ‘next-gen’ rpg released so far.
Warriors Orochi 2 - okay, I’m a DynastyWarrior fanboi. I eat these games up and I’m looking forward to the sequel to the smash up of Samurai Warrior and Dynasty Warrior. Warriors Orochi is hands down my most played 360 game.
PC
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 - Let’s hope it’s more C&C and less Starcraft.
Fallout 3 - There is a change I get this on console…I’m really going back and forth on the idea. a couple weeks ago, ps3 was leading canidate, not PC is back to it.
Spore - This game just sounds awesome. Plus anything that’s like Civilization is usually pretty good in my book. Everyone seems to believe it lives up to the hype and it’s hard for me to argue.
Really…there isn’t much and this is why I’m rethinking if I should buy a gaming PC, i might just get a solid desktop but not spend to much. SC2 and D3 I’ll both get, but blizzard isn’t known for really pushing pcs to their limits.
So there you have the games that have caught my eye that are still slated for an 08 release. 09 is looking pretty good so far as well…as long as FF13 hits that is :p What else do you need besides that after-all?
